Cracking the Code
About lumentor
We’re not a guidance counsellor handing out one-size-fits-all advice.
We’re not your friend’s parents reminiscing about a job they started decades ago.
And we’re definitely not another cold outreach message you’re too nervous to send, or that never gets a reply.
lumentor is a modern career mentorship platform for students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals navigating the transition from academia to the workforce.
Because the gap between school and the real world is bigger than anyone admits.
Students graduate smart, capable, and ambitious but underexposed. They’re handed a degree and expected to navigate hiring cycles, choose career paths, negotiate salaries, assess job offers, and map out a future… without ever seeing how industries actually work from the inside.
So they guess.
They hesitate.
They default.
They “fall into” roles.
Not because they lack potential, but because they lacked mentorship.
They lacked someone ahead of them who could say:
This is how you get hired.
This is how you earn the promotion.
This is what to optimize early.
This is how to pivot without resetting.
And this is the mistake to avoid.
That’s the gap lumentor closes.
We connect Gen Z students and early-career professionals with vetted industry mentors for direct, 1:1 career conversations about growth, decision-making, promotions, and long-term positioning. Our mentors — professionals from top companies — have already navigated competitive hiring cycles, internal advancement, and strategic pivots. They share the insight most people only gain years into their careers, after unnecessary detours.
We’ve removed the usual barriers. No cold outreach. No guessing who to contact. No navigating early career decisions alone. Mentors set their availability. Mentees browse profiles and book time directly. It’s structured, accessible career mentorship built for how Gen Z actually builds opportunity.
And it’s not one-sided. Our mentors grow too by strengthening leadership skills, expanding perspective, and giving back in a way that’s intentional and time-efficient.
At its core, lumentor is about unlocking potential through honest conversations, practical advice, and the confidence to move forward with purpose.
Because no one should fall into a career.
They should choose it.
Founders Story
Turning career confusion into confidence, one conversation at a time.
I graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a degree in Psychology, a field I truly valued, but like many students, I had no clear direction after graduation. I knew I didn’t want to become a psychologist, but I also didn’t know what other career options existed or how to translate my skills into a fulfilling role.
I had potential, but no roadmap. No mentor to turn to. Just external pressure about what I should be doing—and not enough space, support, or practical guidance to figure out what was actually right for me.
So, like many others, I experimented. I explored. I took detours.
I found my way into recruitment thanks to someone who saw potential in me and became a mentor. It immediately clicked. Over the next nine years, I built a career in talent acquisition, hiring top professionals across Canada and the U.S. I’ve worked closely with individuals at every level: recruiting talent, presenting career opportunities, and guiding candidates through major transitions, job searches, and promotions.
Every time I asked, “How did you end up in your current role?” The answer was almost always: “I kind of just fell into it.”
The truth is, many people don’t choose their career paths, they fall into them. Not because they lack ambition, but because they never had access to early mentorship, exposure to career possibilities, or the tools to make confident decisions. That uncertainty often starts in post-secondary school, when students and recent grads are expected to make life-shaping career choices, often with little direction or support.
That’s why I built lumentor.
